The Youth Group has returned
from their mission trip. We spent several days working with the congregation
of Mary Lee Clark UMC, in Oklahoma City, OK. Because of the amount
of work to do at this location we were asked to spend all of our
time with this congregation. We all had a wonderful time working together,
and we accomplished many wonderful projects.
The various projects
that our youth worked on included caulking and cleaning the windows
in the church, cleaning their kitchen and fellowship hall, sweeping
and mopping, painting the bathrooms, and painting the sanctuary.
After our three days of
work the church was cleaner, and most importantly their sanctuary
which had been painted a dark white is now brighter.
We also had the joy of worshipping with the congregation on two
occasions. We participated in worship on Wednesday evening, and
on Sunday morning. This was a wonderful opportunity for our youth
to learn about other cultures, and the way in which they worship.
While in Oklahoma City we also spent some time sightseeing. We were
able to visit two shopping malls, and spent one afternoon at Frontier
City, which is a Six Flags Theme Park. These locations were fun,
but one of the most memorable outings was to the Oklahoma City National
Memorial and
Museum. This park was constructed to remember the Oklahoma City
bombing that took place in 1995. It is a beautiful and meaningful
site, and should be on anyone’s must see list for Oklahoma City.
